                                                                        Adult Education is vital to Baltimore and Maryland

                                                                        • About 9% of Maryland adult residents over the age of 18 had less than a high school diploma in 2009; 19% of these residents were from Baltimore City.
                                                                        • In 2009, roughly 99,000 Baltimore City adults did not have a high school diploma.
                                                                        • In 2009, Baltimore City residents made up 26% of the population below the poverty level in Maryland. 27% of adults over the age of 25 without high school diplomas who were below the poverty line in Maryland were Baltimore City residents.
                                                                        • In 2009, 5.7% of foreign born residents in Maryland lived in Baltimore City. 43% of these residents spoke English less than "very well".
                                                                        • In the first quarter of 2011, full-time workers without a high school diploma had weekly earnings of $444, while high school graduates made $633 weekly, and college graduates made $1,150 weekly.
