                                                                        Adult Education Reading and GED Instructors (Posted 1/20/12)


                                                                        Baltimore Reads, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that operates a Book Bank and provides training to adults in basic reading, writing, mathematics, and employment readiness skills including Reading classes, GED preparation and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs. Our main offices are located in the central business district of downtown Baltimore within walking distance of the metro line, and numerous bus lines. We also have satellite sites across Baltimore City.

                                                                        Office environment is business casual unless specific duties, meetings or assignments require otherwise. Employees are hard working, respectful, client oriented, and supportive of our mission and each other. They are often humorous and exhibit high tolerance for ambiguity and paradox, but not for slackers, prima donnas or high maintenance co-workers.

                                                                        Crucial for this job is the ability to interact with staff and partners, often under pressure or time constraints, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.                                                                         This is a part-time, contractual teaching position with an immediate start date. Teaching assignments may be at the main office or at a satellite site.


                                                                        Teaching Commitment:
                                                                        - Up to 24 hours of class time per week with paid prep time
                                                                        - 2-hour monthly faculty meetings
                                                                        - Attendance at periodic, pre-scheduled professional development workshops
                                                                        - Teaching sessions are 10-12 weeks long


                                                                        Duties/Expectations include:
                                                                        - Teaching a class of 10-20 students
                                                                        - Completing and submitting weekly lesson plans
                                                                        - Keeping and reporting attendance
                                                                        - Assisting with assessment of students
                                                                        - Working with a Mentor


                                                                        Minimum Qualifications:
                                                                        - Bachelor's Degree
                                                                        - Ability to use windows based computer programs and implement technology in the classroom
                                                                        - Excellent interpersonal skills
                                                                        - Flexibility and ability to creatively problem solve
                                                                        - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
                                                                        - Regular access to a computer with Internet service
                                                                        - Preference will be given to those with adult education teaching experience and those with a working knowledge of CASAS and the GED OPT
