Baltimore Reads Needs Your Help: Hold a Book Drive!

Hold a book drive at your school or in your community to help raise books for children who do not have books of their own.

Baltimore Reads is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for educationally disadvantaged adults, children and families.  Since 1992, The Baltimore Reads Book Bank has collected and re-distributed more than 1,000,000 books throughout the Baltimore community.

Help us…help those we serve

A school/community-sponsored book drive is easy and fun. You will just need a box (to store donations) and a flyer (requesting children to bring in their gently used books for other children who do not have books of their own).  It is a great way to teach children the value of helping others.

In this time of ever-increasing fiscal restraints, Baltimore Reads is more committed than ever to those we serve.  If your school will commit to raising 1,500* new or gently-used children’s books, Baltimore Reads will assist those efforts by offering the following support:

  • A thank you on our website prominently highlighting your school/community association and their efforts
  • Transportation provided for the books, if necessary
  • Receipts for donations (all book donations are tax deductible)

*1,500 books for a school or neighborhood population of 300 amounts to only 5 new or gently-used books per student. 1,500 books for a school or neighborhood population of 500 amounts to only 3 new or gently-used books per student, 5 books per person or 3 books per person...either way, a small price to pay to pass along the love of reading to children who have never owned a book of their own.
