Here are some tips for instilling a love of reading in a child:
- Babies love when you read and sing to them. Use poems and rhymes. Even small babies can enjoy books!
- Between the ages of four and seven, children will begin learning to read. Continue reading to them as often as possible.
- Try to share books together each day, and not just at bedtime.
- Read or tell stories in the language that you are most comfortable with. It doesn't have to be English.
- Tell stories about your family and your culture.
- Make sure you have books available at your home. You can visit the Baltimore Reads Book Bank or the library.
