The 2008 May Day Phantom Ball
Join us for Baltimore’s premiere non- event. This year’s Phantom Ball will NOT occur on May 1, 2008. We’d like you to buy a ticket or be a sponsor but please - don’t show up! We’ve been funding our literacy programs this way since the first Phantom Ball in 1990. We have developed a loyal cadre of those wiling to be a no-show donor. Join them and you don’t have dance around our Maypole! We won’t spend your cash on caterers, hotels or fancy flowers. All contributions support educationally disadvantaged adults and families at Baltimore Reads. Can you imagine a world in which you were unable to read to your children, fill out a bank slip or submit a job application? For over 38% of our adult neighbors in Baltimore City, this world is a reality. Education is key to economic and social empowerment. Our students gain necessary skills for independent living, employment, and life-long learning. You can help an adult attain high school credentials/GEDs as well as basic literacy and employability skills. Together, we can help families progress toward self-sufficiency, improve their quality of life, break the cycle of low educational achievement and participate in the wellbeing of our community.
